For my final portfolio, I chose the theme; Landscapes. I selected landscapes because I have a strong connection with the "great outdoors." The earth is a very beautiful place and a lot of us tend to overlook the beauty in the place we live in. As a person who enjoys being outside most of the time (unless there are bugs present) I like to capture it on my camera. I feel it's important to enjoy the little things in life, such as the sunrise or the blue in the skies every once in awhile.
In each of my pieces, I made sure to make it clear that my theme was about Landscapes. For instance, the trees, clouds, and skies are all things I incorporated into my art. I selected acrylic paint for my first two pieces because it's really easy to use and you can create a lot of detail if you use the right brush. For my last piece I picked Charcoal as my media, I really like using charcoal because you can blend a lot to create depth or a darker look. Some of the challenges I faced were trying to make the art look for realistic. Since I'm not used to making realistic paintings it took awhile to correct that problem. Turns out with the right brush strokes and colors, I was able to fix them. I feel that I've gotten a lot better at "arting" by practicing and learning new techniques. At the beginning of the course, I only had a bit of experience in art, now I feel like my final pieces were a whole lot better than my previous ones.

In this unit we picked an art piece from our life that we wanted to redo. I chose a turtle that I struggled to make in the 1st grade. The past turtle had been smushed by a fellow classmate and was baked in the kiln. The new and improved turtle I created has a feature where you can lift up the shell and hide things under it. It was slightly difficult to create since i had to align the turtle shell with the body. Other than that, it was fun to make and I enjoyed the unit.
An artist would choose to work with a limitation to challenge themselves. When you work with a limitation you have to figure out what you are going to use to create a piece of artwork and what challenges you may face while in the deciding process. In this piece I used my hands and acrylic paint to create the petals of the flower and the splatter print. I feel like when you work with untraditional art tools people will see how you challenged yourself and how much effort you put into your artwork.During our Space unit, I learned a lot of things about perspective. My favorite was learning perspective photography. In my opinion, space is an abyss of undiscovered stars and planets. In my drawing for this unit, I picked Jupiter as the main planet in my drawing because it's my favorite planet. I chose Jupiter because it's a really unique planet. It's the biggest planet in our solar system and It's nickname is "the gas giant." I really enjoyed making this for our space unit.
The most successful piece of artwork I created during the boot camps would have to be the clay tiles. Although mine didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, I still like the way it looks and it was fun to make. It was easier than the other forms of art we learned. The clay is easy to mold into whatever shape you would like, but it's a bit messy. During the time we worked with clay, I learned that you need wedge your clay before putting it in the kiln or else it will explode.
